Searched a few threads here for dual monitor support but there seem to be problems related to this. I've plugged in an old 17" LCD monitor into my ATI card along with the 22" widescreen main monitor but I cannot see where or how to get :
either:
1) Full image stretched over both desktop areas
OR
2) Main view on primary monitor and secondary info (map, weather, etc) on the smaller monitor
Any help on these issues, I'd be most grateful.

You have to setup the 2 monitors as one large horizontal desktop (Horizontal span)
In the Condor setup you will find now screenresolutions up to at least 2048*768 pixels.
Perhaps also 2400*1024 but i never had been able to try that.
You won't have these resolutions available in condor if you have configured a "dualview" monitor setting.
In case of dualview both screens are independently configured.
I am afraid you have done this because your two monitors are not equal in format and pixelation.
Try to use the same resolution on both screens.
Do not exceed the videocards max which will be 2560 Horizontal (most likely) You two screens will have 1680+1200. 2880 does exceed that!
As far as I know, also Condor does not support higher horizontal settings.
Thats why triple screens won't work.
Also DVI connectors don't support a very high bandwith.
Large monitors of 2560*1600 pixels need two DVI cables to feed 1 screen!

Hmm, I have the monitors configured so its one big stretched window but those extra wide resolutions do not appear in my graphics setup options.

In-flight theres no way to free the mouse to try dragging the window onto the 2nd monitor.

I've tried with all 3 window settings - window, full screen and full screen emulation, but its not working.

I am afraid it really is because of the different screenformats.
Have you tried 1024*768 on monitor 1 and 1024*768 on monitor 2?
I know the total will be mallformed in that case, but do it just to try it out.
Then in windows you need to stretche over the two windows.
In condor "full screen settings" on res 2048*768.
Condor does not support "not common" resolutions.
Both screens must have the same amount of pixels.
if that does not work,
sorry, but then i don't know.

I appreciate the help but its not working: I set both monitors to 1024 x 768, the max res I can set in Condor remains my widescreen's default 1680 x 1050. There is no 2048 x 768 mode displayed.

I'm only familiar with nVidia drivers, and last I checked, ATI did not have an equivalent to nVidia's Dualview mode.

If you want to have a single Condor display across both monitors, then I think you will at least have to run each display with the same vertical resolution, i.e. 1680x1050 for the widescreen and 1400x1050 for the 17", but if it is a flat panel, it may not support that res. If it did, then you would select Horizontal Span, as has been mentioned, for the display mode to use in the nVidia Multiple Display setup. Your total resolution would then be 3080x1050, but I doubt very much that would be supported.

Alternatively, you can certainly do the other thing you mentioned, and have Condor run on the main panel, and have other things on the second monitor, like Teamspeak, or a map. Then , in the Multiple Display setup, for part 1. Chose the nView display mode to use, you would select "Configured independently from each other (Dualview)"
For part 2, select the pair of displays in the dropdown, and in part 3, select the display you want as primary (the widescreen)

Then right-click desktop, select properties, and go to the Settings tab. You should then see your two monitors represented, numbered 1 and 2. You can set resolution and colour depth here for each display, and drag then to be in the same physical arrangement as they are set up. Select the number two display, and check the box "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor". That ought to get it working.

...same vertical resolution...
I already set both to same resolution (1024 x 768) and it did nothing (ie: did not allow me to use 2nd monitor)
My 17" monitor will only go up to 1280 x 1024 max.
In the ATI Catalyst control centre, i cannot see any function for setting horizontal span. However, in display properties I have extend desktop over both monitors ticked.
Other games (eg: Live for Speed) allow me to stretch a window so it fits across the full width of both monitors without having to reduce resolution.
When I run Condor the mouse is trapped in the game window/view on the primary monitor, it cannot escape from the window so I cannot grab a border to stretch the display at all.
Condor graphics setup allows me only to go to max 1680 x 1050 res which is my primary display settings. Anyone else have luck getting dual monitor displays to work with vista32 and ati cards?

Have you installed ATI's Hydravision? That is their multiple display software. If it isn't on your install disk, then you can download it from the AMD website.

Thx, I just noticed Hydravision - now its opened up a whole load of new issues. Downloaded and installed - it says can't run as Catalyst drivers are not loaded. So I d/loaded the new 8.8 drivers and CCC, CCC tries to install then comes up with an error. "Catalyst Install Manager Has Stopped Working". It then fails to install and update the drivers correctly.
Trying again with the latest 8.8 vista Hydravision I got same error - Catalyst Install Manager Stopped Working. Now I can't change viseo drivers at all. ATI support requires registration then $$/minute phone help. No thanks - no forum or email support is frustrating.

Well, it sounds like everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong! I understand there is a driver cleaner utility which must be run when uninstalling ATI drivers. Did you uninstall old drivers, and use a driver cleaner, before installing the new ones?

There is a good description and guide here:

http://www.driverheaven.net/windows-xp- ... perly.html

They recommend a particular driver cleaner program to use.

Also, the amd/ati support centre here, which you may already know about:

I'm afraid you will find little help here on such hardware repairs. :(
Problem is, LCD screens are becoming relatively cheap, and even opening and diagnosing the monitor's defect alone will probably be more expensive than buying a brand new one.

And even if you would have the skills and equipment to try the repair yourself, the availability of spare parts for consumers may be problematic to non-existent.
If you're on a budget, you'd better look for a second hand unit.
Good luck.

Just thought I'd add to this. XP was the last operating system that offered screen spanning. That has been removed in Vista and above. So unfortunately, unless the Condor developers add specific support for it I'll never get to experience multi screen Condor :(
