DRD Condor Clouds HD

Postby drDiman » Thu Oct 22, 2009 11:56 pm

Hi guys,
I am and my Digital Road studio presents new photorealistic Clouds pack for Condor.
Condor-Clouds-Title.jpg

Design - Dmitry Bednyak (DRD)
Photographers - Tata Maletsky, Dmitry Bednyak
Testers - Sergey Kurbanov (KSN), Alexey Chernov (AV7), Sergey Timanovsky (TSD)

Pack presented in four resolutions:

64 pix for cumulus, 512 for cirrus http://condorsoaring.info/gliding222/DRD-Clouds-64.zip
128 pix for cumulus, 1024 for cirrus http://condorsoaring.info/gliding222/DRD-Clouds-128.zip
256 pix for cumulus, 1024 for cirrus http://condorsoaring.info/gliding222/DRD-Clouds-256.zip
512 pix for cumulus, 1024 for cirrus http://condorsoaring.info/gliding222/DRD-Clouds-512.zip

64-128 pix - for low performace systems
256-512 pix - for high performace systems

install:
Place files from .zip in your /Condor/World/Clouds/ folder and overwrite original files (back up it before installation)

I am not recommend use 512 pix textures if your videoadapter have less than 512 mb memory on board.

Thanks looks nice, although heavy cloud close to my POV kills my FPS, (standard ones did too, and these are no worse mind you) but that's because of my graphics/memory config.

Dear Dimitri,

I just installed your HD clouds and for me a combination of two packages works best so far. I picked the 512px cirrus textures from the 64px-package and put them together with the 512px cumulus textures from your 512px-package. This interestingly gave me a fps-boost of almost 10-15 fps compared to staylo's HD clouds, so that I now have around 40-45 fps on my notebook which I'm running Condor on (ASUS Z53SV, Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 @ 2,20 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 8600M GB, Windows Vista SP2).

Usually I don't like that "fuzzy" look of cloud textures, even back in Flight Simulator 2004 I avoided those cloud textures as far as I could, but having your clouds here in Condor I have to admit that the feeling when flying right under your clouds is quite atmospheric. On my short testing hop it really felt like being "packed in" and having something huge right on top of yourself. When you reach the cloud base it is nice how things start to get foggy in a very soft manner, not as sharp and sudden like with other textures.

So, you did a great job I think, they'll be my favorite clouds from now - unless you come up with something still even better!

Thanks for your words, pilotes!
D-2013, thank you for your test. This is interesting. I think i will reduce cirrus resolution in packages for lower performance systems.

It's PNG mate, screen shot taken over Madang, scene is Ver-1.0, refinements and updates are in progress for V-2.0.
