Creating a new sketch with the ASK21 Part1/3

To create a new sketch from the basic model, created previously, with shadow and semitransparent glazing, while keeping the same texture, it is necessary to proceed in a rational way, in order to avoid disappointments in the transparencies.

In this new sketch, we will open the cockpits of the glider, tilt the model on the left and forwards, with its pilots, then change the position and slightly modify the assistant, so that it seems in talking with the crew.

In general, but other variants certainly exist, it is always necessary to proceed in the same way, by successive "Combine" and "Separate" with necessarily a step consisting in isolating and saving a separate file containing all the semitransparent glasses in their final position, in order to combine them by a "Merge" to the sketch in a last step.

Once this preliminary step is carried out, the glazing of the glider is eliminated. Then the elements of the sketch are recombined in the following order by successive "Combine":
- Non-transparent solid elements.
- Shadow on the ground.
- Glazing by a "Merge" and a final "Combine".

In detail, the process for this project:

1 / Load your initial model. Save this model with "Save As" with a generic name. This new file can be used for all the other sketch that will be created, so it will be clever to make one or several copies in an other directory.

2 / Make &ventually a copy of this scene with an appropriate name, reflecting the final goal, by "Save As".

3 / Cockpit in opening position

Rear Cockpit
Combine the rear glazing and its support with a "Combine".

Position the assembly with a "Rotate" in its open position.

Forward Cockpit
Combine the forward glazing, its support and the front instrument panel with a "Combine". Position the assembly in its open position.

Save the sketch.

4 / Positioning the glider with its pilots

Isolate and lock the Shadow and the Assistant, and make them disappear by clicking on the eye.

Creating a new sketch with the ASK21 Part2/3

Combine all the elements of the glider and the pilots by "Combine".
Make a "Rotate X" to put the front wheel on the ground, then a "Rotate Z" to put the tip of the left wing on the ground. Adjust the glider's pose to achieve a satisfactory result. A final "Put On Ground" will finish the job. Check that the shadow is positioned correctly relatively to the glider. Readjust the elements if necessary. Save the sketch.

5 / Decompose the glider and its pilots by a "Separate".
Identify and Select the forward glazing and the rear Glazing in "Object" Mode.
Save the Glazing by "Save Selected" and give an appropriate name, different from the one proposed. Then save the sketch.

6 / Check that the glazing has been successfully saved by loading this part of the scene into Wings 3D. Make a "Combine" to assemble the glazing in "Object" mode rename with "VitrageCO" in the "Geometry" window. In the "Outliner" window, you must always have a material and a texture representing the entire sketch. Save the glazing.

7 / Return to the main sketch by reloading it into Wings 3D. Identify and remove glazing by a "Delete" in the "Geometry" window. Save the sketch.

8 / By a first "Combine", assemble the glider and the pilots after having isolated the shadow and the assistant.

9 / Position and modify the assistant so that it appears in conversation with the glider crew.

10 / Make a second "Combine" to assemble the glider and the assistant. Save the sketch. At that moment of the process, all the solid non-transparent elements of the sketch are assembled.

11 / By a new "Combine" assemble the shadow of the glider on the ground. Save the sketch.

12 / Finally by a "Merge" put the glazing in place. Then by a "Combine", assemble the glazing to the sketch. Make an "Assign to selection" on the main material in the "Outliner" window.

Creating a new sketch with the ASK21 Part 3/3

13 / Eliminate the material and the superfluous texture by Right Clicks and "Delete" on these elements in the "Outliner" window . Save your sketch.

14 / Then it is the usual process of integration of this object in the scenery.
Ans Set up the sketch in the scenery with Landscape Editor.

15/ Flight all around your new sketch to control that all is correct with transparencies.

All the objects of K2 are made in this way.

Good flight !
