Very impressive. This could revolutionize the entire flight sim genre.

Simply amazing, I'm gobsmacked

Imagine that engine coupled up with Condor...

not bad but imho graphic engine from IL2: Wings of Prey is even better and it would be very nice have such landscapes in Condor :-)

There's no question the scenery in IL-2: Wings of Prey looks much better... more variety and details from the air as compared to the basically empty landscape shown on Outerra's website. I haven't played Wings of Prey yet, but I know the previous versions of IL-2 used local maps (like Condor), hence you couldn't fly around the world. I'm not sure how detailed WoP gets with people's faces, but Outerra seems to do a fairly decent job of offering enough resolution to see facial expressions. I know... who really cares about that in a simulator. However, (and once again I may have misunderstood their website); but the clear advantage of Outerra's engine is that you can have scenery for an entire planet--maybe multiple planets, without requiring a (relatively) huge amount of hard drive space, and yet still see as much detail (if not more) than WoP. With the IL-2 engine, (at least the old one) you have to store the finer textures... which would eat up a lot of space if you were to use that level of detail for the entire world. Outerra's is thus probably much more demanding on your GPU as it renders details on the fly.

Anyway, I think they've got an interesting concept. How well it actually works in the end remains to be seen... but the idea of having one sim where you could play like a first person shooter, climb into an airplane and fly to a space port, get into a spaceship and fly off to Mars and rent a glider there seems intriguing to me.

Here is a approach how you can do it by yourself:

Paper
Sample program

For most of us, TOP pilots (Take off - Outlanding - Pub) this sim could be easier, no big terrain is necessary. :)

I will start promote my landscapes with trade mark "publanding ready", because there is a pub at every village. :) I must find a good trade mark picture for it. Sorry for OT  I would like to have also terrain like this.
