The birds are a great solution to the problem of too-tall-trees!

Hi Arneh,

I'm having doubts... judging safety altitude in the distance...
Can't you give the user the option to install the version he prefers..?
Large without birds or small with birds..?

It is not possible to deliver with scenery an object replacing original condor tree?

Wow!
Smaller trees looks really sweet!
IMHO You could even decrease birds number...
Soaring isn't for flying at trees alt level (even those big ones) - so it is very good idea!
Pilots have to know they need to fly high => good habit for them!

I'm reasonably sure that the birds are an all-or-nothing proposition. The texture works by shrinking the tree and placing a bird at the top of the texture, and since there are only two kinds of tree...

Yes, that's right, the birds are actually "part of" the tree, so there will be one bird for each tree.

I don't intend to make an installer, but I might give a link to a separate tree texture of the regular Condor-size for those who prefer that.

Or Arne - put both tree textures in install ZIP - and two small BAT files to replace active tree texture :) Make_Trees_Normal.bat and Make_Smaller_Trees.bat :)

Some screenshots from the last part of the scenery, now that it's 95% complete. This might not be were the highest mountains are located, but it certainly contains some of the steepest and most spectacular ones.

These next screenshots are from the mountain range known as the Sunnmøre Alps:

How it looks in real life (in winter):

The industrial town of Sunndalsøra:

Eikesdal:

The town of Åndalsnes, at the head of the Romsdal valley:

A little further up the valley, with some of the most spectacular mountains in all of Norway:
Image

Trolltindene (to the right) includes Trollveggen (the Troll Wall), the tallest vertical cliff in Europe (the vertical part is 1100 meters, the entire mountain from base in the valley to tallest peak is a little over 1700 meters):

How it looks in real life in the morning when it gets sunlight:

Condor's terrain model unfortunately can't do this mountain justice as cliffs can't be completely veritical and the sharp peaks along the ridge are lost:

Woooo!

It looks like Mother Nature was experimenting Terragen with crazy settings

the snapshot "The town of Åndalsnes, at the head of the Romsdal valley" is really nice!

All texture tiles are now completed!

Just some final work remains. Tonight I've been working on the planning/PDA map. Here is a close up of a small area:

I've also added the airspaces we have to contend with in Norway, for those who want to make tasks with realistic airspaces. The red areas are controlled airports, or restricted/danger areas which you have to stay out of from the ground up to a specific height (usually very high, so no real possibility of flying over). In the blue areas there are altitude restrictions.

What an amazing piece of art. Easily the best made map and landscape available.

But I need some help with the graphics as the colors in the landscape just floats together and becomes greyish. No waters, no snow, only one color on it all. I have also the Northeren Norway map as well, and the problem is the same there, but everything is blueish there.

Some ideas on how to fix this?

Spec on my computer: Lenovo X220 i7-2640M 2.8 GHz 2nd gen, 8 GB ram, Intel 520 240 GB, Intel HD Graphics 3000 Dynamic Video Memory Technology.

Best regards,
OAB
