Greg, thanks - finally managed to download.

There are quite a lot of vertices for a scenery object..

Target is 500 for a plane or vehicle, 2000 for a realistic tree

Thanks for the guidelines I will try and aim for that. My .cx is also clumsy and could be reduced by combining objects with the same texture prior to mapping.

Although I have placed all of these near an airport in the scenery Im working on which has four 16k dds tiles and the FPS are still well within workable range. I get 90 FPS which for my small laptop is quite high as it normal gets about 140 max awayfrom any objects. Anyway will endeavour to improve as always.

NEW! Get better performance with new polyunsturated models! Ogle their slim (not so smooth) curves.

[Actually still medium poly but WAY better - I challenge you to make a glider with less than 500 vertices - until they start making ships that look like bricks that aint gonna happen!!]

Playing around wjth possible tree solutions. This one is 1630 vertices. It displays strongly in wings as all faces are visible but quite thinly in .cx as the transparency tends to hide many of the faces. There was a lot of transparent area as the photo was taken of a tree with a sparse canopy. Obviously denser arrangements could be made with lhotos of denser canopies. I found it necessary to erase and break up the image near the edges so that each piece of canopy had soft leafy edges.
