I am fortunate in having 'Global Mapper' which means once the geotif is obtained it can be loaded straight into Global mapper and converted to UTM. There is then a facility to cut the image from a top left corner reference into 46080 metre squares. 46080 metre squares are perfect for Condor.
This has speeded up my scenery generation no end.
