Yes, I am attacking :) Jiri about Blanik every second day. We was discussing with real Vosa pilots, if VSO10 is good for Condor or not, because flying characteristic of Vosa are not probably so good, that many people would like to fly with Vosa. But Blanik, it is Mr.Plane - my first and lovely. I MUST TO HAVE BLANIK AT CONDOR, JIRI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Well, someone else is working on VSO-10. Now if I only had enough time to work on objects for our scenery, Blanik, my job and university...

There are not any Blaniks around where I fly anymore.

It is a sad thing.
Where I fly all are glass ships, asw27s, 24s, LS8s, ASG29s, Shempps of all varieties.
I miss seeing the old Blanik we had at the field in Vacaville 'bout twenty years ago.

My father-in-law was a glider pilot back in his Polish home. He would tell me of bungee launching something like an IS-3 when he was a young man in the 1930's. He was a military officer and the war brought his gliding days to an end. 6+ yrs in POW camp.
He had not seen a glider for 30-40 years. When he did see one again, he was with me as I was learning to fly.
It was amazing to see his 80-year-old face sparkle as we watched an L-13 make a low save over the hills near our field, then climb away.
He almost cried to see such a thing.
He told me gliding for him was measured in seconds aloft and this display was unimaginable.

Needless to say that every day I had a lesson, he was there parked in his wheelchair under an umbrella on the flight line enthusiastically cheering the pilots with each launch.

Imagine the time warp for him.

Excuse my rambling but this thread describing the Blanik project reminded me of his response to soaring time-travel when a Blanik brought it to him.

In his memory.

Soaring is love for all life I think... I understand him.
L13 are at many airport at my scenery, for example Medlanky, Krnov, Moravska Trebova, Martin...
I was also looking from the hill near of airport Medlanky as a small boy to Blanik´s and yellow VT116 Orlik flying above my head - like a silent nice birds... From this time I love a soaring and gliders.. And I am very happy, that I had a chance fly at reality some years. I will never forget it... (and with condor it is really impossible :) )

i remember back in the 1980's a project called "Nation Glide" was run in england, with the aim of promoting gliding for the disabled in the UK.

It was the brain child of one of my old instructors Peter White, a schrieb falcon powered glider was flown round the uk to as many gliding clubs as was possible and carried disabled passengers and also club 2 seaters where possible also joined in.

It started at Colerne in wiltshire the old base for Bannerdown RAFGSA club, and finished there 2 to 3 months later.

We had loads of disabled people we managed to get up in the air, from young to old, one passenger in particular is brought back to memory from this story, and old guy who flew horsa gliders in the arnhem drop in holland, he was seriously injured in that drop and has been handicapped ever since.

watching his eyes light up as he was strapped in and the look on his face when he returned back to the launchpoint after his flight summed up the whole appeal to those of us volunteering that day.

the storys he told us after his flight were amazing, it was his first flight in a glider since the Arnhem drop.

cool thanks for bringing back that memory.

Blanik... until I joined these forums I never realized how much the Blanik meant to people, I have flown one once, repaired them (nothing to do with me flying one) & even knew the pilot who many, many years ago bought one & owned just about every British 2 seat record with it. Love to see how the flaps would be animated in Condor :)

Oh & before I forget another high quality evolution of the scenery, away from the mountains its the nearest Condor has to the UK :)

Nation Glide, where did the Club Vega fit into that? I say that because it landed at Aston Down complete with 'Nation glide' stickers.... you just triggered a vague memory there :)
