Today I had a free day so I decided I spent my time working on a Paint for the ASG29.
I found out how to make the paint "High Res" so I tried it.

Here is what I got so far:


P.S For me the higher resolution of the Paint doesn't make the FPS drop and I have a pretty old computer.
I didn't have the oppurtunity to test it when otehr pilots use it but taht might not be a problem.

bmp. 1024 x 1024???
possible that 2048 x 2048 or 4096 x 4096.
Too large.

Works for me so it works for you.
You could make it 8000x8000 but that would probably make your FPS drop really bad!

The Condor Plane guidelines ( in a sticky top of this section) state maximum texture size = 1024x1024

I suggest you test your textures online on a busy server to see if you get problems. I'm guessing you will..

Yep, I thought about it:
4096*4096 pixels in bmp format = a filesize of 50 MB
Now, on a busy server, if everyone use an hd skin, the memory needed to store skins is 1.6 GB!!
(and I don't even mention the resources needed to scale and paint texture on each plane)

So, I think it's a nice concept and it has to stay as a concept.

Why would the 1.6 gig be a problem. All skins are stored client-side. If you only have one skin, every online glider has that skin. So the 1.6 gig is a bit over the top. I don't think many people have 50 different skins just to see everybody's custom skins. As long as you don't go flying in formation with 10 gliders with a HD skin it should not be a problem.

I flew with around 12 people who where using default Textures and didn't have any probs.

In case sombodys PC isn't to good he shoudl remain with the default textures and not HD. And if he does it's his fault.

P.S Unless your not having the HD Textures installed people that fly with it won't give you problems.
