Hi !

It is impossible to reduce to 5km.
10km is the minimum.

This penalty is symbolic, and will fly safely !!

Later in the race, with 3 km of visibility of other gliders, the Internet is no latency.

I know you can not please everyone. 10 points is not much, and this is a game, as mentioned earlier

Please SBC2010 pilots, check the rules of the competition ... here above in this thread !

They have been updated a few days ago ...

And don't forget to join us next Thursday (January 14th 2010) at 19H30 UTC for the only training day of SBC2010 before the first race ...

Just support the creators of condor club and buy a premium membership: It's just 12 Euros per year.

Hi all,

For a better visibility of the SBC2010 subjects, for the moment, and before any further re-organization of the threads,

we would like you to post here, in this thread, any message related to a general subject of the SKyBattle CUP 2010 Condor Competition (SBC2010) !

Thanks in advance ! :)

As I understand it, here are the currently proposed rules:

- Plane icon range (2 or 3 or 4 km): to be decided by the organization team at the end of the training day
- Thermal helpers : not allowed
- Turnpoint helper range : 0 km (even on no-PDA tasks)
- Realtime scoring: not allowed
- External view : allowed
- Padlock view : not allowed
- Plane recovery : not allowed
- Height recovery : not allowed
- Mid-air collision recovery : allowed with penalty (10pts)
- Cloud flying : allowed with penalty (60pts per min)

Most rules seem reasonable, but there are a few that will cause trouble:

- Plane icon range need not be any more than 2km max. Any more and there's always going to be follow the leader, particularly with a full server. It's a tremendous advantage to be able to see what pilots ahead are doing.

- Turnpoint helper range on a no-PDA task should be 5km, actual TP size 500m. Landmarks in Condor are not as easily identified as in RL, and not as easily found. With no visible TP in a no-PDA task, rounding TPs becomes a matter of luck. Don't make the contest an arcade game or one that favors local or prior knowledge.

- There should be no penalty for mid air collision recovery. It happens, and sometimes the person that is penalized is not the person who caused the crash, and sometimes no one caused the crash. There is no reason for this penalty.

- The cloud flying penalty should be 10 pts per min. That's enough to discourage cloud flying, but not so much as to overly punish pilots who fly into the clouds that Condor sometimes instantaneously generates. Moreover, the cloud penalty is somewhat unpredictable in that it is often assessed when there has been no cloud flying.

I certainly hope you have figured out that a 120 min start window just won't work. If you use it, pilots who are serious and who have the time to stick around to compete will just land and do something else for 115 minutes, then restart. You'll end up getting a very late semi-regatta start that will include most of the top competitors. The only difference will be two wasted hours.

I have flown a couple of your test tasks, and weather conditions and difficulty were very good for serious competition. Iron out a few silly details and you'll have a great series.

BTW: I don't like scoring with Condor Club because someone else, who apparently never races, registered my CN and therefore I'm prevented from using it. CNs should be first come, first served at contest registration, not camped on by non-users for a year at a time. I know this is a personal issue, but one that has caused me to consider avoiding your comp.

Whoa!!! I just saw this one. I'm a premium member of Condor Club, so I can upload all my .ftrs.

BUT. I will not support any comp that forces people to pay to submit scores. Charging to compete is totally against the spirit of Condor, and forcing people to join Condor Club is charging to compete.

Sorry, but count me out.

SBC2010 Team and Condor-Club management are two different things.

SBC2010 Team has no other way to score such a big event except with the Condor-Club ... it would have ben way too much work to develop something else and then we wouldn't have decide to launch the Competition ...
Its a matter of compromise ...

But We do force nobody, and you can even win the competition if you are non-premium :
Look ... you can upload :
5 ftr on January / 5 races
5 ftr on february / 8 races
5 ftr on March / 8 races
4 ftr on April / 4 races

Total 19 compared to a total of 25 races ! And don't forget that only the 14 best results will be counted for the final ranking !!!

PhilippeFP with the rest of the team has estimated that it is not a very big restriction for a non-premium member and that this competition, even with this small restriction, is worth the try to organize ...

I am curious how you will recognize if ppl will get disconnect and will not be able upload FTR to CB because isnt premium member. He will get penalty like he crashed or how it will be solved?
