Central Andes - Scenery under development

Postby Serginho » Tue Jun 06, 2006 9:53 am

Hi.

After some search, i came up with a nice 3 x 4 area of Andes.

This scenery will have part of Chile with Pacific Ocean as west limit and Argentina as east limit.
Will be possible to fly across the Andes and over the famous Mount Aconcágua (highest point in South America. Highest peak outside of Asia (6,959 metres (22,831 feet).

Planed 4 aerodromes in Chile and 2 in Argentina.

Im glad i did not have any problems while working on this area like i had on the Hawaii project.

In the following image, red dots are the planned aerodromes:

With the condor-waves still existing it will be a piece of cake ;)

Hi.

ASH33M, i rendered few tiles and noticed that the snow is starting too low on the montains.

I have downloaded tons of pictures of Andes at different seasons.
For an obvious reason i would like to have it looking as close as possible to summer and this means snow at very high altitudes only.

Right now on my scenery looks like the snow is starting at 2.200m BUT i want snow up above 4.200m at least.

Sure the snow areas vary quite alot on each season (summers) but i chose to dont have too much snow.

Another thing is that the standart terrain color texture created by terragen is too much live green then grey as it gets up until snow.
But i need more brown/dark green to lower alts, red/yellow dark brown as it gets higher until snow.

I read on manual that the TerragenCondor.tgw is set by default to Slovenia and there says it may need minor or major tweaks.

Well, looks like i need to do a major tweak on it. Now i just need to know how.

Please, how to tweak the TerragenCondor.tgw file to match Andes standarts?

Thanks in advance.

Comment related to attachments:
The montains on this area have average 4.500m, many at 5000m high, with the current Condor's .tgw snow's alt, the cordillera becomes a massive white mass having the entire montains painted white.

I must say that after i rendered a bunch of tiles on the Andes and flew over there, i was completely SCARED by the size of the montains and the look of the Andes' area. Its huge

This is also on the covered area of the Andes scenery: Maipo volcano.

I dont plan to use photorealistic textures, thats why i also need to tweak the color of the .tgw file to match this more brown ground instead of green.
