By copying d3dxof.dll from Windows XP into Wine and telling Wine to use this instead of Wine`s built-in dll, I got Condor to run... sort of. I ran it on a 2year old laptop with Intel-gfxcard (I915), so maybe the results will be different on a better machine.

hey interesting! would be so nice, using only Linux on my machine. But i guess, there's at the moment just the problem with bad graphic drivers for Linux...
I will also try it on my Pc after my holidays :)

Tried that one out - yes in my computer it also starts ... somewhat...

The menus before free flight or so is rather garbled but the flight starts and runs about ok. It just does not react to any keypresses :( so I could not get an external view for example. From cockpit graphic looked ok without corruption...

It is getting close - I am really looking forward to it running in linux because at the moment I do not bother to boot windows in order to play...

Interesting also that you seem to have it running windowed? Mine does not start without fullscreen option active...

I was once trying to get the Condor dedicated server running under wine, unfortunately without success. Anybody tried this yet? It would be really great, because I have a leased linux webserver, which would make up a perfect condor server ;)

but for virtualbox I need a windows license... and furthermore it's pretty resource-hungry... i wanted to keep it small... e.g. i have only 4GB of harddisk space on my server...

There are some screenshots in winehq where it seems to be running on ubuntu desktop but description is old.

I did as the thread starter wrote and made the override with that dll
sofar fine but I can't run windowed (which is not much of a problem).
Also I do not get to the screen to assign controls.

Game starts and seems to render normally - I can even make the training and an airstart - but the game responses to no inputs at all - not even the keyboard inputs so I think some further override would be necessary...

Anybody else having these issues or perhaps even solutions?

made also overrides for dinput and dinput8.dll now I have keyboard working and can fly with mouse, unfortunately joystick is still absent - I can not get to the setup panel to assign it or anything...

If I get to assign controls condor says:
"The device or device instances is not registered with device input. This value is equal to the REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG standard COM return value"

Everything else is just fine, the graphics no glitches, nothing, game plays smooth and so on.

Hi guys! :D

After banning windows from my HDD last year, now I'm gonna use Condor again! (windows was slow, expensive and completely user-unfriendly imo)

But wine got stable, version 1.1.5 is out now and - Condor runs nearly as well as it did on windows...!
I got it to work on Geforce 8800GTX with max. details (except trees=normal) and 40FPS on 1152x768x32px windowed. Only runways are looking really ugly (they flickre if you get some miles away)
WINE is still being developed, hopefully getting more out of condor in the next versions!

If you wanna check yourself, goto:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=10399
(completely free)

Notice I did not tried online play yet, probably this still needs some work in wine1.1.5, I'll check within the next days ;)
Also, there are some bugs left, but wine-team is working on new versions!

Anyone else using Linux?

Greets from Linuxland!
(In silent nights you still can hear the windows machines reboot)

I don't know why this myth persists, but the last time I had a spontaneous reboot was more than 10 years ago.... on an Apple machine.
I've been building, changing, testing and torturing PC's, (and Mini- and very large Maxi systems for that matter) for the best part of my life, and never understood these subjective Windows/Unix/Apple or whatever camps.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a MS advent. :?
But....
I've a 6 year old desktop here running XP and a new Laptop running Vista and they both never rebooted.
And they both run Condor very decently. :D

I have a CTD (crash to desktop) 2-5 times in a month, 1 Full system self reboot in a year (I'm over due for one now) for my PC which is a XP Pro SP3. I've even had a my linux PC (Dell Precision 330) rebooted once, which happened 3-4 years ago, I think I was running too much on it and it packed in.

I've only had one, maybe two, CTD whilst in Condor that I could not explain. I think I've had 5-10 CTD from Condor, but I found out why it CTD, mainly screensaver, updates or I had too many things running that caused it.

Condor freezes about once a year for me with XP pro, I would say that XP is pretty stable for me with 3 machines in the family all of quite different specs. A long time ago I stopped using automatic updates & have every program that updates itself set to manual .. that helps the blood pressure quite a bit :)
